Still in her twenties, Sabine Beaudelaire isn’t ready to settle down and have a family yet, so her fiancé of eight years has broken off their engagement. When Sabine travels to her hometown to visit a favorite uncle who’s been in a car accident, she meets “Hot IT Guy” and decides she deserves a fun fling, and he’s just the guy to fit the bill. What she doesn’t realize is Hot IT Guy is actually Xander Fishbourne, an old friend of her brother who was always interested in Sabine but never allowed to pursue her thanks to her brothers’ protectiveness.

Now that Xander and Sabine are old enough to make their own decisions, their week together becomes hot and full of passion. Xander, having divorced a few years ago, is ready to see where the relationship can go, even if it means doing the long distance thing once Sabine returns home. But Sabine is reluctant, and she ends up leaving without a word to Xander. A change in circumstances leads Sabine to need Xander more than ever. But she’ll have to fight to get him back after the way she ended things.

Rekindling the Flame is part of the Den of Sin series, which is a series of books written by four different authors where the characters overlap. Each standalone story revolves around a New Orleans hotel, aptly nicknamed the Den of Sin for its secret activities. This particular story was set at the hotel and some Den of Sin activities were taking place, but the characters never got a chance to participate. Instead, they made their own heat together.

The novella featured a strong female lead who had to learn that independence and love were not mutually exclusive. Sabine knew she had more to accomplish in her professional life before she was ready to start a family, but just because her ex wasn’t willing to wait for her didn’t mean no one would be interested in taking things at her pace.

Xander, on the other hand, had shied away from relationships since his divorce, but he knew a good thing when he saw it. He was determined to grab his second chance with Sabine and hold onto it with both hands.

Overall, this was an enjoyable, sexy little read. There could have been a little more development to Sabine’s feelings for Xander, but the story was believable and fun. I’d recommend it, and I’d be interested to read other stories in this series as well as more by this author.

Rekindling the Flame is currently available for pre-order on Amazon and will be released on July 20, 2015.

Happy reading!
