Kayla Brandon has finally found a place where she completely fits in, both in her kinky lifestyle and in love. Nicholas Ford is the perfect Daddy for this little girl, and she’s ready to spend forever with him. But first she’ll have to make peace with her demons from the past. And a little matchmaking along the way won’t hurt.

Touch of Trouble is the 4th book in the Touch series and is best read in order with the other books of the series. Nicholas and Kayla’s relationship began in book 1, and now Kayla has to face her family in order to move forward with Nicholas.

I enjoy Ms. Dee’s writing tremendously, and this book is no exception. Her characters are real people and her kink is realistic. She doesn’t skirt around the rules of the BDSM lifestyle and offers readers what feels like a true glimpse into various kinks. It’s always hot and entertaining.

I can appreciate that different kinks are for different people, and unfortunately this one just isn’t for me. I don’t mind reading about Daddies and littles, but I have a difficult time getting in the mind of a little. I enjoyed the first book of the story more because it was from Nicholas’ point of view. With this book being told from Kayla’s point of view, I couldn’t connect as well with her even though I like her character in all the other books.

Overall, it was an integral part of the series as a whole and well-written. I enjoyed the other characters at Switch, and look forward to the stories that follow.

An Exaltation of Larks by Suanne Laqueur

An Exaltation of Larks Cover

5 out of 5 Stars

*I was provided a copy of An Exaltation of Larks by the author in exchange for an honest review. I am not compensated for my honest opinion.*

Alex Penda’s life is forever changed at the age of eleven, and though these changes will haunt him for years to come, he makes the best of it. A new country, new friends, ultimately a new family, and eventually a wife.

Valerie Lark comes from a prominent family in a quiet town, but Alex shakes up her world when she’s only twelve years old. They live their lives separately but connected until the time is right for them to be together.

Javier Landes is one of New York City’s top male escorts. Disowned from his family at the age of seventeen, Jav is unapologetic about the life he leads in order to make ends meet. He’s good at what he does, but love is no friend of Jav’s.

Lives cross paths and bonds are formed and strengthened. Everyone has something that shapes their life, and it dictates who we are and how we respond. An Exaltation of Larks follows the journeys of three seemingly different but strangely bonded people through life, love, hardships, and loyalty.

This novel takes you through three decades and across two continents, an intricately woven look at the lives of Alex, Valerie, and Jav. It’s an amazingly different type of story, showing us the events that formed the characters into who they become. Their lives intersect and diverge, but it’s in the divergence where the intersections make the most sense.

Ms. Laqueur’s fifth novel is a masterpiece of life. It’s brutally honest; life isn’t always pretty, and this author doesn’t withhold the ugly parts. Sometimes we make wrong decisions, but our mistakes are ours to own. The characters in this book are perfectly flawed—real human beings who have been molded by their circumstances and relationships. How they interact and the story they create made for one of the most fascinating books I’ve ever read.

Each main character is interesting in their own right, and there is no rooting for any one person to come out ahead. Life is not always filled with simple choices, and loving each character equally made it all the more heart-wrenching to witness their ups and downs. I was fully engaged in the world the author created, feeling like a fly on the wall in every scene. I laughed and cried right along with Alex, Val, and Jav.

And if the story of the three main characters isn’t enough, Ms. Laqueur has a way of incorporating secondary characters into the plot that makes you love them too and want to know more. If she were to write a book about any of the secondary characters in this book, I have no doubt I’d be hanging on every word of it just the same as I did with this book.

Suanne Laqueur is a must-read author, and this latest book is no exception. It deserves more than 5 stars.

An Exaltation of Larks will be released on November 22, 2016 but can be pre-ordered from your favorite retailer now. All of my reviews of Ms. Laqueur’s works can be found by selecting her name from the Author Spotlight tab.

The Deeper Chronicles Book 2 by Allyn Lesley

The Deeper Chronicles Book 2 by Allyn Lesley

Noah Adams and Avi Linton are finally able to relax and enjoy each other, but business for Noah always takes precedence. Avi understands, to a degree, though that doesn’t keep her from pushing for answers Noah isn’t willing to give. Noah’s business suddenly becomes personal and he has to figure out who is targeting him and how to stop the threat. When the threat sets its sights on Avi, Noah has more to lose than he ever imagined. He’ll need to save Avi without losing himself in the process.

Although not strictly necessary, I highly suggest reading book 1 prior to reading The Deeper Chronicles Book Two. There is a lot of information from the first book that continues into this book, and since it had been a while since I read the first one I found myself struggling at times to understand some parts.

That said, it is an interesting and intriguing romantic suspense novel, and I appreciate the way the author is able to weave together various pieces of the puzzle. So many things are happening at once but I was able to follow along and put clues together, which kept me engaged throughout.

Noah was an alpha who ruled with an iron fist. His characterization stayed true from the first time we met him in book 1 until the end of this book. While I appreciated the consistency of his character, it was also one of the downfalls of my enjoyment. If you’re the type of reader who loves an alpha male and the women who submit to them, then this series would be a great choice for you. Unfortunately, I prefer to see character growth and adaptation. I wanted Noah to show a little trust in Avi and let her into his world a bit. Instead he used sex to distract or deter her every time she asked him questions, which not only left me disconnected from Noah but also wondering exactly what their relationship was based on other than sex. Avi was a bit too weak for my liking.

The copy of the book I received was an ARC edition, so I tried to limit my criticism of grammatical errors, however they did factor into my rating a bit as there were some errors in vital sentences that really took me out of the moment. Hopefully they have been cleaned up in the final publication.

I’m certain this book will appeal to many readers. It just didn’t hit enough high notes for me.

An Exaltation of Larks by Suanne Laqueur – Cover Reveal and Pre-Order

“We’re so alike, you and I. It’s no wonder we kept finding each other.”

September 11, 1973: Eleven-year-old Alejandro Penda watches from his apartment window as Santiago, Chile falls to a military coup, destroying his family and his childhood. Arriving alone in America, he’s taken in by the Larks: a prominent family in the town of Guelisten. Though burdened by unresolved grief for his disappeared parents, he becomes fiercely loyal to the Larks, eventually marrying one of their daughters, Valerie.

September 11, 2001: Javier Landes watches from his apartment window as New York City falls to terrorism. As one of Manhattan’s top-paid male escorts, this professional lover has never lacked for company and is loyal only to himself. But in the wake of 9/11, Jav is named guardian for an orphaned nephew in Guelisten and must open his carefully-guarded heart to pain he’s long suppressed.

Alex, Valerie and Jav meet first in their twenties, with a sudden attraction each finds strange and compelling. When they meet again in their forties, they discover not only is their bond still strong, but their life experiences are strangely similar. All have been shaped by separate 9/11’s, and their unfinished business from the past will change everything they know about love, loyalty and friendship.

“Life has rules. You cannot come in the middle of the night and take what we agreed isn’t yours.”

Across three decades and two continents, Suanne Laqueur’s fifth novel explores the unpredictability of sexual attraction, how family ties are forged, torn and mended, and how love’s downfall can turn to exaltation.

An Exaltation of Larks will be available on January 5, 2017, but you can pre-order at your favorite retailers now!

Jonah Fletcher knows his time is short, but he’s vowed to leave an impression behind and focuses all his waning energy on completing his masterpiece—a glass installation. He didn’t count on the drunk guitarist storming into his life and changing all his priorities. Kacey Dawson’s impulsiveness has landed her in a world of trouble, but it’s also put her at a crossroads. Continuing on with the band the way she has is self-destructive, and ultimately it’s not what she really wants to do with her life. But her demons chase her and she has nowhere to escape.

Until she wakes up on Jonah’s couch with no recollection of how she got there.

An unlikely friendship blossoms into something more, but life doesn’t always give you what you want. Sometimes it gives you exactly what you need.

There are few words I can use to describe Emma Scott’s Full Tilt. Heartbreakingly beautiful are the main words that come to mind. This is the type of story that will keep you reading late into the night, and then have you lying awake for hours after, unable to sleep because of the impression it leaves.

I was immediately sucked into the lives of Jonah and Kacey, both characters with depth and intrigue. Jonah doesn’t allow people to get close. What’s the point when he knows his time is short? He wants to be remembered for doing something amazing, not mourned or pitied. But when Kacey crosses his path, he can’t help but be drawn out of his comfort zone, out of his routine. The attraction is undeniable and real, but Kacey has to go into it with eyes wide open. She knows how this will end, but is she strong enough to enjoy it while it’s here? Her life can only change for the better by letting Jonah be a part of it.

I’ve now read a few of Ms. Scott’s books and enjoyed them all, but I can say with absolute certainty that this one will remain high on my favorites list for years to come. I’m not typically a fan of this kind of story, but the emotions Ms. Scott is able to draw out made the story worth every minute of lost sleep.

Although this is book one of two, it can comfortably be read as a standalone, but don’t be surprised if you find yourself clamoring for book two as soon as you turn the last page.
